Vittoria visit to Boardman Centre

The best thing about Vittoria UK is how Michael has woven together people who are fundamentally simply friends having a great time together with bikes and cycling and cycle related conversations, with a little bit of life thrown in too. And so, with recently crowned National Champion and Ambassador Ellie, chilling out with headphones on in the back, and Michael making sure that the conversations were fun and relaxed, we headed to the new Boardman Performance Centre at Evesham.

Arriving at this state of the art facility, created by cycling legend, and former Olympic gold medalist, and hour record holder Chris Boardman, Jon and Dave had already set things up, meaning all we had to do was carry the carrot cake, find Ellie the changing rooms so she could prepare for the rollers, and locate the team coffee. For any cyclist group, coffee is a necessity; and, when it comes with freshly made carrot cake, with Italian icing, then it’s so much better.

The new centre at Evesham is the first in the UK to have a cyclist specific wind tunnel, and the many visiting riders were making the most of the guided tour. Alongside this are a myriad of other rooms, including a room where your butt pressure is mapped to create the most comfortable saddle analysis for you too, increasing your marginal gains through butt science! The centre even has individual changing and shower rooms for visiting riders, and a wealth of gear in the shop downstairs.

Watching the focused Ellie on the new Elite rollers, guests were in awe on learning that this Vittoria UK Ambassador was a national champion. Michael was talking through the benefits of cotton casing on tyres, and Jon and Dave were imparting their wealth of tyre knowledge to the inquiring riders, whilst  I converted riders to Vittoria, with tales of tyre testing in the Yorkshire Dales, where the unforgiving roads and trails take no prisoners and ask for the very best from the bike.

Before too long it’s time for Ellie and I to head off home to the north. The car is loaded with an extensive range of champion focused cycle training products, and we hit the road. Conversations are focused around training, cycling and the general chatter of cycling  industry friends. No, Vittoria isn’t simply a brand here in the UK. It’s seems to have evolved into a collective of like minded friends under one conductor, Michael; all of whom understand that in order to achieve the ultimate in performance, you have to continually analyse the present - and that’s what makes Vittoria the best too.
